Toys R Us for Reinforcing Stereotypes?

I am honestly not sure which is more newsworthy, the fact that a group of Swedish sixth graders are accusing Toys R Us of reinforcing damaging notions of gender roles, or the fact that the accusation is based on a two year long study of the effects of gender roles that the students have been undertaking.

    Makeup’s battle for androgyny.

So, the rise of the male polish begins. And I’m not just talking about Cuccio’s spa line. You’ve got your share of retail products as well, from Europop lines to “Man Glaze”.

    Hey Ads! I Don’t Relate…

Anyone who knows me, definitely knows that the Human Truth of Yin Yang Blend™ rings especially true for me: “I see the line between the sexes as dotted.”™ I’m a mish mash of traits that come from both male and female stereotypes. I’m a tomboy that uses my “feminine wiles” confidently. I’m a wild risk taker and also a loving nurturer. A total slob who loves “cleaning day”. I could wear baggy stained crap then dress like a movie star when the mood takes me. I’m a dichotomy in many, many ways. My Point?

    Androgyny Still Going Strong…

Of course, this kind of fashion statement has been around for decades: Greta Garbo, Bowie – Ahhhh 80’s hair bands anyone? Yeah. So it’s nothing new… It could be just another turn of the wheel of “era recycling” that fashion is so good at.

    Male Prostitution Mainstream?

    Male Prostitution Mainstream?

The French have always been known to be more liberal when it comes to the topic of sex, at least more liberal than we Americans. But recently there seems to be a movement of celebrating the tabooed topic more forcefully in France, a balancing of the sexes against their traditional roles in a [...]

    The Zapotec’s Third Gender: Muxe

Gender equability is the essence of our Yin/Yang Blend wave. It sees the line between the sexes as dotted if it chooses to recognize the line at all. In American culture, we have become incredibly tolerant of male and female roles fusing into each other’s realms. The rise of feminism, the decline of [...]

Men’s Bra an Online Bestseller in Japan

Add men’s bras next to men’s pantyhose’s on our list of things that blur the line between the sexes in our yin/yang blend wave. Just two weeks after launching the bras, a Japanese online lingerie retailer says it’s their hottest selling item. Targeted to cross dressing men, the Rakuten.co.jp also sells men’s [...]

Girl Sues to Play with the Boys

Some just have the burden of having to explain to others why they see the line between the sexes dotted, and they’ll do so.  Fourteen year old girl Logan Young wants to play baseball as a freshman, not softball. This means she would have to play with the boys of course, and her [...]

    The Fight For Male Equality

According to the National Law Journal there is an increase in men filing workplace lawsuits. The fact that is most interesting about the type of lawsuits that are being filed by these men is that they seem to defy conventional male stereotypes. Men are demanding for their employers to provide them with paternity leave and [...]
