Nike has upgraded it’s Nike + SportBand with a sleek 20 LED dot-matrix display that measures activity, calling it Nike+ FuelBand. It’s a watch-like device that displays vital information including calories burned, distance, pace and time and synchs with your smart phone so you can set daily goals. One of the tag lines is “The key to doing more is knowing more.”

“The NikeFuel is designed to progressively fill up its row of colorful LED’s as and when one gets closer to their targets. The Nike+ FuelBand is going to start taking pre-orders for $150”

The Nike+ FuelBand is designed for anyone who wants to be more active. It measures your daily activity and turns it all into NikeFuel. So you can set a goal for every day and then go out and beat it. “Life is a sport. Make it Count.”

The Body Warranty™ wave is about getting the most out of your body. In this wave we find people that want to strive beyond limits. The Human Truth™ is: “I want more out of my body than ever before.”™ This sport band is a way to track your achievements and goals which is motivating in itself. They got the timing of it’s release right because it’s right after the holidays when people are trying to keep their new years resolutions. Personally, for $150, I’d want it to do the exercising FOR ME… I’ve never been described as “the athletic” type. However, seeing how daily activity adds up would be very cool.

The Body Warranty™ wave is filled with evidence that helps us strive for physical greatness. The Human Truth™ of this wave is: “I want more out of my body than ever before.”™

Well the Japanese have found a way to multi-task daily life and exercise by wearing fortified underwear. Yes, you read that right:

“The new underpants, from the Tokyo-based Goldwin company, claim that the average 10 stone man who walks 90 minutes a day while wearing them can lose 210 kilocalories weekly – the equivalent of half a litre of beer. Key to the technology implemented in the underwear – which cost £23.52 (Y2,940) and are currently only on sale in Japan – is a resin which is printed on fabric to prevent it from stretching. “The Calorie Shaper Pant technology focuses on the hipline which is the area used by people when walking and climbing stairs. The material here is non-expandable which means they must use their muscles more.” He added: “Calorie burning clothing and footwear are becoming increasingly popular in Japan.” The underpants also boast deodorizing particles, increasingly popular in salaryman clothing particularly during summer months, to keep the garments fresh.”

Apparently this is just the latest in several fitness products that are targeting Japan’s increasingly overweight population. The backbone of Japan’s economy is its salarymen—white collar workers who think nothing of working 16 hour days and six day week. Doesn’t leave much time for hitting the gym, so it’s not surprising that calorie burning underwear is getting attention. However, I’m pretty sure wanting to combine fitness with daily tasks is a universal desire.

Personal trainer Drew Manning is a man on a mission. The pic on the right is NOT the before pic! For the last few months he has been eating “sugary cereal, soda, chips, white bread, white pasta, pizza, cakes, cookies, muffins, etc.” in order to gain weight… so he can loose it all again.

“I will be teaching people how to get back in shape by allowing everyone to follow my specific meal plans and workout plans on this site. I will be documenting my progress every step of the way and blogging about it, from weekly pics, measurements, and even allowing people to decide what fatty foods I should partake of during my fat stage.”

Another element to his experiment was about wanting to feel more empathetic with his overweight clients. “People that are overweight have to overcome both physical and emotional barriers when it comes to losing weight. I hope to have a better understanding of this through my experience over the next year.”

The Body Warranty™ wave is about pushing the body beyond it’s limits. Here is a man who is probably well acquainted with the determination and discipline you have to have to achieve superior fitness, and now he setting a test for himself that I’m sure many people will be interested in following.

The Human Truth™ of the Body Warranty™ wave is: “I want more out of my body than ever before.” No one is immune from wanting more out of their body, some of us just have harder fitness battles than others. Believing that some people are just naturally slim and some people are naturally overweight is a concept that Manning is wanting to dispel with this stunt. Clever way to market your fitness biz… Lets hope he gets the results he’s after!

Sometimes I worry about my eyesight given that I sit in front of a computer all day. So I thought this was quite an interesting way of looking at the problem of deteriorating vision. Rather than deal with the problem once it arises… it’s kind of the reverse engineering of eye health.

“GlassesOff, to be launched on the iPhone next year, could allow people to keep reading as normal beyond the age where they could otherwise have needed glasses, its developers said. It works by training the mind to translate blurry images into clear ones, to compensate for the deterioration of the eyes which prevents us focusing on nearby objects.

Uri Polat, of Tel Aviv University in Israel and co-founder of Ucansi, the company which designed the software, told the New Scientist magazine: “We’re using the brain as glasses.” When we reach our fifties the lenses in our eyes to become less supple, meaning it is harder for them to focus on objects that are close to us. In the new app, groups of blurry lines known as Gabor patches appear at several points across the screen and the user must identify when one appears in the centre. “

The results have been quite compelling. Users with an average age of 51 were able to read two lines lower on an optical chart held 40cm from their face – a reduction in “eye age” from 50.5 to 41.9 years.

Increasingly, we are seeing technology step in as a preventative measure when it comes to physiological issues like this. Brain Age is another example. Its using “gaming” to keep our brain function sharp and operating at levels that belies what is “normal” for our age.

The Human Truth™ of the Body Warranty™ wave is: “I want more out of my body than ever before.”™

Those of us that refuse to give in to statistics have an increasing number of tools to help us beat the odds and be the best we can be for longer. In an aging population, you can bet that there will be an increasing demand for any products or services that help us push our bodies beyond it’s limits.

The kind of things we find in the Body Warranty™ wave are usually fairly “health orientated”. The Human Truth™ is: “I want more out of my body than ever before.”™ Which one would often associate with making “healthy choices”…right?

Well Today I’m gonna challenge that! How about when your as tired as Rupert Murdoch looks, and you’ve got more work to do than LiLo needs to do to revive her career?

You need a damn strong coffee, am I right??

Well how about the strongest of them all? 40x stronger than average? My hands are shaking just typing about it.

Created by a UC Berkeley-working physicist who has dubbed this ominous elixir: Black Blood of The Earth.

“Bottles’re available in limited quantities of four sizes (ranging from 375ml to 4L) in a slew of different varieties, including a dark roast from Sumatra, mediums from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Kona, and a mild roast from Panama, which is great to drink when you’re in a Van while it’s Halen. If that’s not enough, he also just added a roast made using the most highly caffeinated bean in the world, which is called Death Wish. Each bottle comes with a how-to-drink guide w/ instructions”

The essence of this wave is: “Pushing the body beyond it limits.” I think we all know that sometimes we need more help than usual.

I love infographs because I’m a visual learner, but this one gave me a scary wake-up call! It visualizes data from Medical Billing and Coding to illustrate how a sedentary lifestyle and sitting for hours at a time each day pose serious health risks.

We all know that an active lifestyle means regular physical exercise, but did you also know that sitting down for more than six hours a day can increase your risk of death by as much as 40%??

When I add up of how much time I sit in front of the computer for business and pleasure, I realize I’m definitely the intended audience.

Those people with long commutes should also take note: Sheldon H. Jacobson, a University of Illinois researcher, found the surge in passenger vehicle usage in the U.S. between the 1950s and today may be associated with surging levels of obesity.

So how do we make a change?

Well I found some cool examples of desk modification. First, there’s a guy who, quite cheaply, extended his desk vertically so he can stand and even “bop around to music” while he works. He also stands barefoot on a mat “with little raised balls massage my feet and are supposed to energize.”

My favorite is the Treadmill Desk! There are heaps of websites that advise you how to DIY and plenty of (expensive) ready-mades. People are actually taking up the challenge to walk across America and tracking their progress with Google Maps!! This office based wanderer: “I did it! 1.75 years and approximately 20 lbs lighter, I finished my walk across America while working at my office desk. You can do it too!”

The Human Truth™ of Body Warranty™ is “I want more out of my body than ever before.” Doing this blog made me realize that the odd couple of trips to the gym a week isn’t really enough for a person who lives such a sedentary lifestyle, so I guess I for one will be asking my body for a bit more.

I usually put any interesting evidence on Yoga in the Self- Actualization level of Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs… usually in the Inner Balance™ or Moment Momentum™ wave. This article, however, fit’s nicely into the Body Warranty™ wave because it’s about “Wanting more out of my body than ever before”™

According to a U.S. recent study, Yoga can cut in half the risk of a common and potentially dangerous irregular heartbeat know as atrial fibrillation — a leading cause of stroke and is most common in the elderly. This is in addition to the fact that Yoga has proven to lower high blood pressure and cholesterol levels!

The study also found that yoga also reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression related to the condition:

“On average, yoga cut episodes of the irregular heartbeat in half, while also significantly reducing depression and anxiety scores and improving scores in physical functioning, general health, vitality, social functioning and mental health, the researchers found”

The article mentions that several pharmaceutical companies are developing drugs that can only hope to be as successful. But as with most pill popping solutions, they are expected to cost thousands of dollars a year and come with the obligatory bag of side effects.

With out getting all “hippy rant” about it, Yoga is about working with your body to make it the best it can be: spiritually, mentally and physically. Anything, that “all encompassing” can’t be done with a pill… it’s about a lifestyle change. I know it’s not easy to start any kind of exercise regime. When I would get into yoga positions that were hard at first, I would get the “shakes”. My instructor told us: “We shake now, so we don’t shake when we are old.”

Body Warranty™ is about “HIGHTENED FUNCTIONALITY”, and hopefully we are coming to realize that it comes with working “with” our bodies and not just popping pills.

This story literally put my lesbian vegetarian roommate off her lunch. It’s not an “Onion headline”, I checked.

So, at New Zealand’s Hokitika Wildfoods festival, foodies will be able to imbibe horse semen. Which apparently will make you feel like a wild stallion.

“Horses are pure testosterone, you know. They have hardly any cholesterol, so the idea is you knock it back and feel like a stallion yourself. You’ll have as much zizz as a stallion for a week afterwards.” said Mr Kerslake, of Christchurch.

I’m not going to dwell on the interesting choice of the word “ZIZZ” to describe this but… really?

He goes on to say: “And it’s all safe – we’re getting the semen in the same way breeders do, using an artificial vagina and storing it in the formula they use.”

Oh, well cool then.

This “tonic” will be served by women brandishing riding whips, will be washed down with a chaser similar to Red Bull but more aptly named “Powerhorse”.

The Body Warranty™wave is about HIEGHTENED FUNCTIONALITY and “getting more out of your body than ever before”, so we often see evidence that pushes the boundaries of what regular people will do. But I gotta say horse semen is winning the crazy race right now.

What’s next? Tiger Blood?? #WINNING

Body Warranty™ deals with “wanting more out my body than ever before”. As the NYE hangover wears off, we are all thinking about those resolutions and wondering how long they will last this year. You’d think to be successful with life changes – one would have to be honest about where you are starting from …right?

Well if that’s the case, America, get ready to eat a bowl of: resolution fail.

Nancy Metcalf of Consumer Reports Health said “Americans tend to give themselves high marks for healthy eating, but when we asked how many sugary drinks, fatty foods, and fruits and veggies they consumed, we found that their definition of healthy eating was questionable”

Here’s some tid bits from their recent poll to chew on:

89.7 percent said their diet was “somewhat” (52.6 percent), “very” (31.5 percent), or “extremely” healthy (5.6 percent.)

But 43 percent of the survey respondents said they drank at least one sugary soda or other sweetened drink every day

just one in four said they limited sweets, sugars or fats in their diet

Four in 10 Americans said they ate “pretty much everything” or “mostly everything” that they wanted

Few count calories or weigh themselves, but when they were asked to self-report their weight, four in 10 were off-track.

A third said they were at a healthy weight when they actually had a body mass index (BMI) of an overweight or obese person

eight percent thought they were overweight or obese, but their BMIs suggested they were not.

One in three US adults is obese

losing weight is the second most popular new year’s resolution this year after quitting smoking

Three in 10 Americans said they eat five or more servings of fresh fruit or vegetables daily… When they were asked why they didn’t eat more vegetables, the most common reason given by the poll respondents was that they thought they consumed enough already.

Hmmm, seems if people want the “heightened functionality” of the Body Warranty™ Wave… they might have to a little more honest with what shape they are starting with.

Our military defense will soon rest in the hands of comic geeks everywhere.

So the American Government is making defense programs called BaTMAN and RoBIN ( “Biochronicity and Temporal Mechanisms Arising in Nature” and “Robustness of Biologically-Inspired Networks” respectively). Wading through all the science jargon and government terminology, it boils down to this: The BaTMAN project is looking to increase hand eye coordination and response times, while the RoBIN project looks to create a more naturally resilient soldier, with reinforced immune and nervous systems.

So in essence Batman and Robin would be creating Captain America.

This seems like it would be the first step in creating a “super soldier” program, and thus flinging our world even further into the realm of costumed justice. Volunteering for the project would be huge. Who wouldn’t want to be an “improved human?” I think I would volunteer, but not until they worked out all the kinks. I don’t want my heart to explode whenever I get an adrenaline rush or anything.

That would be the worst super power ever; Heart Exploding – and really, you’d only be good for one adventure anyway.
