You know how sometimes you see something and it and triggers a wave of nostalgia? Something about it fires synapses in your brain that sends a message rushing across electrical currents within your head giving you an emotional response linked to whatever you’re seeing at that precise moment; Memories. We here at Culturewaves have been following the progression of a curious movement that has evolved from a flickr group devoted to “looking into the past,” to a man recreating his home movies from years gone by to an open source web service that uses Google Maps to create a global interface for finding and placing old photos in their modern locations.
This is what open source should be. Ideally, if the photos exist, we could create a visual time line for the entire world; we would be able to scroll through the aging process of an entire civilization as well as discover patterns and nuances that would not have been possible otherwise.
