Too Manly To Ask For Advice?

Guys and Dolls™ embraces the fundamental differences in the sexes.  So this study really fits well in this Wave.

“…scientists surveyed more than 500 participants, asking whether and where they might turn for advice when selecting a wine for themselves or for others. And they found that women tend to talk to friends, family, or the guy stocking the shelves, before making a purchase. Whereas guys are more likely to go it alone or to rely on information they’d found online or next to the register.”  -hmmm POS advertising works for guys eh?

So, it’s an extension of the whole “men don’t ask for directions when lost” thing.  The aforementioned study was just on wine purchases but I think about my own experiences and it really does ring true.  From everything from grocery shopping to buying a car – I go on advice from friends, family, the people working there and the all important (for me) “vibe” aka “gut check”.

Let’s take the second hand car thing – a pretty big and fraught purchase. My boyfriend would pour over reviews, websites, Kelley Blue Book comparisons, etc. until he seemed to work himself into a knot.  He never agreed with my choice at first but I would go with my tried and true formula of a little research, a little talking it through with others and the all important “how did I feel about the seller”… which I’m proud to say worked out great each time.

I’m not making a big judgment call on which is the better decision making process… both have their merits, just saying that asking for directions when your lost makes a whole lotta sense to me.  *cheeky grin*
