Roaming Hunger

Over the past two years, the street food scene has seemingly exploded in major cities. With everything from taco trucks to cupcake vans, the mobile restaurant movement has been on the rise ever since the word gourmet was attached to taco.

The only problem with all this delicious, cheap food is that you have to scout it out, and that is where social media begins to become important.  Roaming Hunger, developed in 2009, tracks food trucks across the country. The system currently tracks 200 restaurants in 8 major cities, and swells as users add more to the ever-growing list.

Street Food and social media almost fit hand in hand, having already written about twitter and street food over a year ago, tracking services seem to be a natural progression. The real excitement will be when AR and street food get merged together. I could go for a Yelp styled AR app that tracks street food vendors as they move around a city.
