Industrial metal alums Static-X are offering a unique way to take home their concert experience if you liked their show: Stop by their merchandise booth and buy the whole show plus some bonus material on a USB stick.
The USB sticks not only features the night’s performance audio (So if you screamed your head off in between “Get To The Gone” and “I’m With Stupid,” you can relive that moment over and over again in digital quality) but also a variety of exclusive bonus material put together by the band especially for their fans: things like a personal message to fans in the city of the show, a brand new picture gallery, several behind the scenes and making of video clips of their newest album as well as links to related web sites.
This has unbelievable potential and is a wonderful way to meet your fanbase in the digital age. I’m sure it cuts down on digital piracy of the shows and of the band as a whole. It should up their revenue while at the same time strengthening their relationship with their fans. This is something that if it was continued to be practiced and further refined would add a whole new dimension and incentive for going to live shows. You literally get to take home your entire experience with this band that you love enough to buy a ticket to and wait the entire night to see. All of this on top of the fact that it shows a deeper understanding of the direction in which the music industry as a whole is moving- The digital age.
Imagine doing this with press conferences. A journalist badge gets you a prepped USB with a digital outline, reference sheet and resources- and maybe a personal message from the speaker on the subject at hand. Keynote speeches at colleges could do this. Political figures would be able to spread word of their platform and their message with greater ease in the fight to stay on top of emerging technology. Artists at gallery opening could sell USB sticks with a short music playlist of songs that influenced the creation of the art in addition to an exclusive interview and high res pics of the show. Sporting events could have a USB stick that has a full digital schedule, links to the team sponsored fantasy football league with picture albums the days game. The possibilities and applications for this easy-to-make tool are practically endless.
